ELIAS GREEN EYES

There was a huge buzz around Stockholm newcomer Elias at this year's Great Escape festival down in Brighton, and while many emerging artists falter in the face of such industry pressure, he flourished. Signed to Warner Records early-on, Elias has been afforded time to develop his pained electronic-soul properly, and his new material is proof that the majors are capable of producing a cool, credible artist with a little patience. Given a world premiere by Annie Mac on Radio 1, 'Green Eyes' is the first song to be drawn from Elias' debut EP on the label, WARCRY. With his potent, gravel-gurgling croon, it'd be easy to compare Elias to fellow Warner signing Kwabs, but there's something in the wobbly synth dynamics and expansive beat drops at play here which throws us off the scent, tipping Elias into more accessibly poppy territory. If 'Green Eyes' is anything to go by, we're in for a real treat with this record. - DC
